Recommended Action
I move that Council approve Temporary Construction Easement and Permanent Public Utility Easement Contract No. M17NA70172 Granted by the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration to the Incorporated County of Los Alamos for the Purpose of the Los Alamos County Switchgear Substation (LASS) and Duct Bank and Electrical Line Installation Project.

The Utilities Manager recommends that Council approve the motion as presented.
Body
A new Los Alamos County Switchgear substation will be constructed on LANL/NNSA property adjacent to the County Eco Station. New underground powerlines will be constructed from the substation, across Los Alamos Canyon, and connect to the County grid along Diamond Drive in the vicinity of the hospital. This grant of easement will provide the necessary easements for the project. Site preparation for the substation and installation of the underground power lines will commence once this easement is executed. This project will provide a second switch station to Los Alamos, greatly increasing the electric reliability to the community.
Alternatives
The project cannot go forward without this grant of easement.
