Title

Discussion of Ski Hill Land Transfer Plans (Presented by  Susan Brockway-Hahn and James Coleman)

Body

At the request of Council, Susan Brockway-Hahn of the Los Alamos Ski Club and James Coleman of Pajarito Recreation LLC will be present to discuss their respective entity's plans for the future of Pajarito Mountain Ski Area.  This has been a subject of community concern for the past several years, with varying plans developed and pursued during this time frame, including at one time the potential for the County to be an owner of a portion of the property.  At present, the intention is for the Ski Club to transfer 100% of their property to Pajarito Recreation, and the two presenters will discuss how the transfer is expected to occur as well as any provisions that are included in the land transfer plans for the continuation of operations and/or preservation of current access to the mountain.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

It is not anticipated that the transfer of property itself would have a direct fiscal impact to the County, however the Ski Hill's ongoing operation is important to the County's overall economy.

The County Council has previously placed $2 million aside for the purpose of partnering on a waterline to the Ski Area as well as $450K for the development of mountain biking trails. Neither amount has been spent to date as the transfer of property is integral to the development of any agreement towards these purposes.
