Appointment of Canvassing Committee for the 2018 Primary Election.
Recommended Action
I move that Council appoint Bill McKerley, Shelby Redondo, and Kyle Wheeler as members of the Canvass Committee for the 2018 Primary Election and that Warren Manzanec be appointed to act as an alternate, if necessary. I further move that the County Clerk's office coordinate the canvassing in accordance with state law.
County Manager's Recommendation
The County Manager recommends that Council approve the appointment of the Canvassing Committee as requested.
Body
Section 600.3. Canvassing Committee. The returns of every election shall be canvassed and certified to the Council by a Canvassing Committee consisting of three persons to be appointed by the Council. No person shall be appointed to the Committee unless he is a resident and a registered voter of the County. No more than two of the members of the Committee shall be members of the same political party. No person who is a candidate at an election to be canvassed by the Committee shall serve on the Committee. The Committee shall serve at the pleasure of the Council.
The following individuals have agreed to serve as the Canvassing Committee:
1. Billy McKerley [R]
2. Shelby Redondo [D]
3. Kyle Wheeler [D]
Warren Manzanec [L] shall act as an alternate, if necessary.
The Canvass Committee will meet on June 8, 2018 at 2 pm in Room 330 of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building. The election results will be presented to Council for certification at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
