Certification of the Canvassing Committee Results of the 2018 Primary Election.
Recommended Action
I move that Council accept the results of the Canvassing Committee and direct the County Clerk to certify the results to the State Canvassing Board in conformity with applicable New Mexico election law.
Administrator's Recommendation
The County Administrator recommends that Council approve the results of the Canvassing Committee.
Body
Sections of the New Mexico State Law 1-13-1 and 1-13-3, state: "The board of county commissioners is ex officio the county canvassing board in each county and the county canvassing board shall meet within three days after the election and proceed to canvass the returns of the election". The Los Alamos County Charter, Article VI, Nominations and Elections, section 600.3 Canvass Committee, states "The returns of every election shall be canvassed and certified to the Council by a Canvassing Committee consisting of three persons to be appointed by the Council. No person shall be appointed to the Committee unless he is a resident and a registered voter of the County. No more than two of the members of the Committee shall be members of the same political party. No person who is a candidate at an election to be canvassed by the Committee shall serve on the Committee. The Committee shall serve at the pleasure of the Council.
On May 22, 2018, the County Council appointed the following individuals to the Canvass Committee: Bill McKerley, Shelby Redondo, and Kyle Wheeler. (Warren Manzanec was appointed to serve as an alternate). The Canvass Committee will meet on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 330 of the County Municipal Building. The committee members will select a chair and the committee chair will present the results to the Council for acceptance.
