Yard Trimming Roll Cart Program Update

The new yard trimming program began July 9, 2018. As of October 12, 2018, 3,300 households received yard trimming carts (48% of all County single family homes have a yard trimming roll cart). The County collected ~251 tons of yard trimmings since the commencement of the program. The amount of yard trimmings collected diverted approximately twenty two (22) truck loads from being sent to the Rio Rancho Landfill.
An additional 220 requests for yard trimming roll carts have been received. Los Alamos County received a RAID Grant from NMED Solid Waste Bureau, in the amount of $31,704 which will funded the purchase of 624 yard trimming roll carts. The carts were delivered on September 26, 2018.
Customers continue to request either larger or additional recycle carts to accommodate the change to the collection schedule for yard trimming and recycle. In the past month, Environmental Services delivered 312- 96gallon recycle roll carts. There are 100 additional requests for 96-gallon roll carts.
