Title
Board/Commission Appointment - Environmental Sustainability Board
Recommended Action
I nominate Amanda Macdonald, Megan Green, Ashley Reader, Harbhajan Khalsa to fill one current vacancy on the Environmental Sustainability Board.
I move that Council appoint one nominee to the current vacant position:
By roll call vote, Councilors vote for 1 nominee -- and the nominee with the highest vote total of at least four votes will be appointed to fill a partial ESB term that began on August 1, 2017 and will end on July 31, 2019. This nominee will also be appointed to a full term beginning on August 1, 2019 and ending on July 31, 2021.
Body
The Environmental Sustainability Board is a seven member board with staggered two-year terms beginning August 1 and ending July 31. A copy of the current Board Member list is attached for reference (Attachment A). The one vacancy is a result of former ESB member James Robinson, being elected to County Council, with an expiring term date of July 31, 2019.
The applicants are:
Amanda Macdonald [DTS]
Megan Green [N]
Ashley Reader [D]
Harbhajan Khalsa [D]
Applicants were interviewed by an interview committee on January 17 -18, 2019. The interview committee consisted of the following:
ESB Member: Sue Barns
Council Liaison: Pete Sheehey
ESB Staff Liaison: Angelica Gurule
Although all applicants are qualified, the interview committee recommends appointing Amanda Macdonald.
Party affiliations are noted as [D] Democrat, [R] Republican, [I] Independent, [G] Green, [L] Libertarian, [DTS] Declined to State, and [N] Not Registered to Vote.
Appointing the applicants will not violate the County Charter restriction concerning political party majorities on Boards and Commissions.
