Body
In accordance with the “Los Alamos County Council Appointment Process for Selection of Board of Public Utilities Member” (Process), the Board of Public Utilities Member Selection Committee (Committee) interviewed eight candidates who have expressed an interest in being a member of the Board of Public Utilities. The names of the applicants are: Michele Poling, David Hampton, Steve Tobin, Aaron Walker, Robert Gibson, Greg White, Travis Gibson and Steve Russell. The Process specifies that a minimum of two and a maximum of six candidates may be forwarded by the Committee to Council for consideration. The County Attorney’s office has advised that reducing the list of candidates to the number specified in the Process is effectively setting public policy and is therefore required to be performed in an open public meeting. The Committee must therefore decide on the final list to be forwarded to Council in such an open meeting.
Alternatives
The Process only allows for a limited number of names to be considered by Council, so the only alternatives available are to decide which names are to be forwarded, from a minimum of two up to a maximum of six.
