Recommended Action
I move that Council adopt Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 19-07, a Resolution Amending The Designation Of The Polling Places Of Each Precinct For The 2018-2019 Election Cycle.

The County Manager recommends that Council adopt Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 19-07.

On October 10, 2017, the County Council approved Resolution 17-19 designating the polling places of each precinct for the 2018-2019 election cycle. The polling places designated in 2017 are as follows:

White Rock Town Hall - Conference Training Room
139 Longview Drive, White Rock, NM

Betty Ehart Senior Center - Downstairs Classroom
1101 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM

Los Alamos County Municipal Building - Boards and Commissions Room/Council Chambers
1000 Central Avenue, Los Alamos, NM

Los Alamos County Golf Course Community Building - Community Room
4244 Diamond Drive, Los Alamos, NM


Section 1-3-7.1 NMSA 1978 permits the County Council, upon its own action, to create an additional polling place within a precinct for the convenience of the voters and providing accessibility to the polling place.

After careful consideration and in preparation for the November 5, 2019 Regular Local Election, County Clerk Maestas would like to add the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Branch as an Election Day Vote Center (polling place), in hopes to make voting more accommodating not only for all voters of Los Alamos, but primarily for eligible college and high school voters, as studies show on campus voting sites effectively make it easier for students to participate in elections.
