Title

Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 19-09, a Resolution of Support Authorizing Application for Local Government Transportation Project Funds

Recommended Action

I move that Council approve Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolutions No. 19-09, a Resolution of Support Authorizing Application for Local Government Transportation Project Funds

County Manager’s Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council approve this motion as presented.

Body

During the 2019 New Mexico Legislative Session, House Bill 694 was passed and subsequently signed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham creating the Local Government Transportation Project Fund.  As a result, $50,000,000 was appropriated for qualifying projects.

On April 30, 2019, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) issued a “Call for Projects” letter to the Metropolitan and Regional Transportation Planning Organizations providing general application parameters and deadlines which requires a resolution of sponsorship from the governing body.

Based on the application criteria and match availability, staff recommends the following projects for funding consideration under this program:

1.                     Rehabilitation of NM 502/Trinity Drive from Diamond Drive to Oppenheimer Drive

2.                     NM 4/East Jemez Road Intersection Improvements, and

3.                     DP Road Improvements

The Attorney's Office has reviewed the attached resolution (Attachment A) and was published as required by County Code (Attachment B).

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

A detailed breakdown of funding amounts by project is attached for reference (Attachment C) and includes information on the available County’s matching share.

The Public Works Department will oversee the contract work and administer the grants in cooperation with the County's Finance Division.
