Title

Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 19-19, a resolution of support for Los Alamos County Ordinance No. 696 to transfer approximately 87,976 square feet of land owned by the Incorporated County of Los Alamos to the Board of the Los Alamos Public Schools.

Recommended Action

I move that Council adopt Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 19-19, A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR LOS ALAMOS COUNTY ORDINANCE NO. 696 TO TRANSFER APPROXIMATELY 87,976 SQUARE FEET OF LAND OWNED BY THE INCORPORATED COUNTY LOS ALAMOS TO THE BOARD OF THE LOS ALAMOS PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council adopt Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 19-19.

Body

This resolution provides support for Ordinance No. 696 for the transfer of Sullivan Field parking lot to Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS).  County Code section 14-31(2) indicates that a transfer of land to another local governmental agency (LAPS) can only occur after the Council determines by resolution that the transfer is in the best interest of the public.  Adoption of this resolution satisfies this requirement.

LAPS is planning to build a new fieldhouse at Sullivan Field.  The plan for the fieldhouse includes a significant use of land that is currently part of the Sullivan field parking lot and this parking lot is currently owned by the County.  In addition, LAPS has expressed an interest in owning the entire parking lot so that they can enforce LAPS policies there.

Alternatives

Council could choose not to adopt this resolution or could modify the resolution.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Unplanned Item

If this resolution and the related ordinance are adopted, then the property would be conveyed to LAPS.
