Title

Board/Commission Appointment(s) - Art in Public Places Board

Recommended Action

I nominate Abigayle Cutting-Smith [D] (new applicant), to fill one vacancy on the Art in Public Places Board for a term beginning on September 29, 2020 and ending on September 28, 2022 and move that Council appoint the following nominee to the vacant position.

Body

The purpose of this item is to fill one vacancy on the Art in Public Places Board.

The vacancy represents an expired term vacated by Jeremy Smith, which ended on February 11, 2020.  Interviews were held off in the event other candidates applied.  Originally, there were two applicants for this position, but one dropped out. The applicant for this position is:  Abigayle Cutting-Smith [D]. The interview committee found Abigayle Cutting-Smith to be well qualified and decided to put forth her name instead of continuing the recruitment period.

Party affiliations are noted as [D] Democrat, [R] Republican, [I] Independent, [G] Green, [L] Libertarian, [DTS] Declined to State, and [N] Not Registered to Vote.

This five-member board has two-year staggered terms.  It is currently composed as follows: Catherine Ozment [D], Pete Carson [R] , Jen Baker  [DTS] , and Theophan  Mackey [I].

The applicant was interviewed on August 19 by an interview committee which consisted of the following:  APPB Chair - Catherine Ozment; Council Liaison - James Robinson (filling in for Antonio Maggiore); and Senior Management Analyst - Katherine Hudspeth.

The interview panel recommends appointment of the following applicants: Abigayle Cutting-Smith.

Appointing any of the nominees will not violate the County Charter restriction concerning political party majorities on Boards and Commissions.
