Recommended Action
Staff recommends and is requesting, a ratification of inclusion of this initiative for the DOH Deliverable, but much more importantly, the approval and recommendation of this project to County Council.
Body
The Los Alamos County Health Council will review and discuss selecting our deliverable/response to DOH, our initiative to develop, negotiate and advocate to the County Council a proposal to reserve beds for Los ALamos residents use, in-patient beds for substance abuse and other critical behavioral health issues at Darren's Place in Espanola, NM.
By selecting this as an initiative/deliverable for the Health Council, it would touch on 3 of the 7 identified gaps within the Gap Analysis:
• Problems with Access to Health Care services, Inadequate numbers of Health Care Workforce, Issues with non-acceptance of Medicaid & some Commercial Health Insurance
• Culture of Alcohol Acceptance & Drug Use: Substance Use
• Mental Health: High Stress/Anxiety in general population and Unmet Need for New Residents
Deliverable Number Five (5):
Focus on one identified health council priority where research and implementation of best practices is attainable. This could be done utilizing community input, community health assessments, planning, coordination, identifying health issues and priorities, and any policy work. Proof of deliverables will entitle the creation of an action plan for council capacity development.
