Body

1.                     Bear Discussion - On September 22, 2020, Los Alamos County Council had a discussion regarding bears in the community and discussed options to reduce human-bear interactions.

 

2.                     Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story was screened at Central Park Square on September 25th. Over 35 tickets were reserved and 25 ticket holders attended. Thanks to the Recreation Division for their time and loaning us the equipment to host the event. Thank you to Mr. Kunsberg for his generosity of letting us use his building and for paying for all the pizza that went to ticket holders and volunteers. Thanks to Project Y coworks for opening their building to allow people to use their restrooms.

 

3.                     Environmental Services submitted the second quarter 2020 Landfill Methane Probes Report. The Los Alamos Closed Landfill Quarter 2 methane report was in compliance with NMED Solid Waste Rules and Regulations. All gas probes monitored were below the regulatory 5% methane level; and no methane concentrations exceeded the 25% lower explosive limit (LEL) in building and/or structures.

 

4.                     The Transfer Station ventilation upgrade project is currently underway to replace all of the fans in the transfer station to reduce dust and improve visibility and air quality for employees and the public.

 

5.                     ESB and Zero Waste are participating in the Peoples EcoChallenge, from October 7  - 28th

 

6.                     LA County and PEEC staff are developing educational materials for the backyard composting project. Staff is also working to obtain quotes to purchase the compost tumblers and kitchen countertop bins.

 

7.                     Staff has been working to boost participation of the Recycle Coach tool. There are currently 634 subscribers.
