Title
Approval of Budget Revision 2024-47 for the Purpose of Funding Vertical Breakers
Recommended Action
I move that the Board of Public Utilities approve Budget Revision 2024-47 to fund vertical breakers and forward to Council for approval
Utilities Managers Recommendation
The Utilities Manager recommends that the Board approve the motion as presented.
Body
The TA03-2598 Switchgear Vertical Sections Project, referred to as the "Project" in this document, will provide additional power capacity to the County service area. Los Alamos County is currently supplied power via two 13.8kV distribution feeder circuits (TC-1 and TC-2) that are served by the TA-03-2598 Switchgear that was installed as part of the TA-3 Substation Replacement Project. DPU requested Triad provide provisions for the connection of two additional 13.8kV distribution feeder circuits (LC-1 and LC-2) at the TA03-2598 Switchgear to meet future demand load increases within their service area and to improve their overall system reliability. The two new distribution feeder circuits, LC-1 and LC-2, will supply power to a Los Alamos County owned and previously installed 15kV-Class Switchgear, referred to as the Los Alamos Switch Station (LASS) Switchgear, currently located in TA-61 near the East Jemez and Diamond Drive intersection.

This project is not an Electric Coordination Agreement (Power Pool ECA) participating cost.
Alternatives
If the budget revision is not approved, the project will not proceed.
Fiscal and Staff Impact
The fiscal impact of this action is an increase in Transfers Out (cost of power) in Electric Distribution and an increase in Transfers In for Electric Production. When combined reporting for the Electric Fund, the transfers in and out are netted together. However, there is an overall decrease in the Joint Utilities Fund cash for this project. See attached Budget Revision.
