The County Manager recommends Council approve the motion as presented.
Body
The Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) seeks approval to submit a grant application for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to secure funding for the replacement of LifePak Cardiac Monitors. These devices are essential for delivering advanced life support and emergency medical services (EMS) to our community. Our current fleet of 18 units is nearing the end of its serviceable life, presenting an urgent need for replacement to maintain operational readiness and ensure public safety. Current fleet status, 13 monitors have already reached end-of-life status and are unserviceable if any components fail. The remaining 5 monitors will reach end-of-life within one year, leaving them unserviceable as well. To address the immediate need, LAFD is utilizing current Fire Marshal funds to purchase six new cardiac monitors. These units will replace the monitors on all frontline medic units. The selected model for replacement are LifePak35’s available through Sourcewell Price Agreements. After evaluating available cardiac monitor models and conducting demonstrations, LAFD has selected the latest Styker Lifepak model. Transitioning to this model will be seamless, as it aligns with the current LifePak15 model in use. Staff familiarity with LifePak equipment minimizes the need for extensive training, ensuring quick integration of the new units into service. These monitors are critical and essential tools in our emergency response operations, providing advanced capabilities to address cardiac emergencies effectively. Securing funding through the AFG will allow the LAFD to replace its aging fleet with 12 new LifePak35 monitors. The investment will ensure our responders have reliable tools to serve the community effectively
Alternatives
If approval to apply for this grant is not approved, the replacement of LifePak Cardiac Monitors will need to continue to replace cardiac monitors as budget allows.
Fiscal and Staff Impact
Maintenance and replacement of LifePak Cardiac Monitors will be budgeted in operational budgets for future years.
