Title

Proclamation Designating September 21, 2024, as "National Clean Up Day in Los Alamos" (Accepted by Environmental Services Management Analyst Joshua Levings)

Body

Whereas, National Clean Up Day, established in 2017, is held annually on the third Saturday of September, with the goal of reducing litter and cleaning up local communities, parks, trails, beaches, and open spaces; and

Whereas, the Los Alamos County Public Works Department and Environmental Services Division announced that the 21st annual Los Alamos Clean Up Day is rescheduled from April to September this year to coincide with National Clean Up Day, allowing our community to join the two million volunteers from various communities, corporations, civic organizations, and private citizens across all 50 states and U.S. territories in this campaign to beautify our nation; and

Whereas, the Environmental Services Division encourages volunteers to register online at lacnm.com/CleanUpLosAlamos24 by September 13th to notify the division of their intent to Clean Up our community on September 21st; and

Whereas,  the Environmental Services Division is committed to making this day a success and will provide registered volunteers with free gloves, trash bags, and trash pickers, and will accept collected trash at the ECO Transfer Station and the Overlook Collection Center on Saturday, September 21st between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., free of charge to Los Alamos residents who can show a valid driver’s license or utility bill demonstrating residency; and

Whereas, it is equally important to recognize and thank the organizations that have adopted sections of our roadways through the Public Works Department’s new Adopt-A-Road program and whose efforts to clean these roads throughout the year have significantly contributed to the beautification of our county; and

Whereas, our six Adopt-A-Road participants have demonstrated unwavering pride and commitment to maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetics of our roadways throughout the year. These participants are:

                     Jemez Riders Riding Club

                     Los Alamos Community Foundation

                     Champions of Youth Ambitions

                     Los Alamos Daily Post

                     First United Methodist Church

Larissa Baker - EXIT Realty Advantage

Now, therefore, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim September 21st, 2024, as

"National Clean Up Day in Los Alamos"

and I further recognize and thank our six Adopt-A-Road participants for their year-round efforts and inspiration.
