Recommended Action

I move that Council approve amendment one to agreement no. AGR26-888 with BIGBYTE.CC Corporation, for a term of seven (7) years,  to increase the not to exceed amount from $550,000.00 to $740,000.00, plus applicable gross receipt tax, for the purpose of increasing required power supply at the remote disaster recovery site and data center with telecommunication interconnection.

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council approve the amendment one to agreement no. AGR26-888 with BIGBYTE.cc Corporation as requested.

Body

Los Alamos County entered into AGR26-888 with BigByte.CC Corp effective July 15, 2026, per County Council approval on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Los Alamos County Information Management (IM) staff visited BigByte in Albuquerque shortly after the effective date to plan logistics of the transfer of equipment to this site. During this initial visit it was determined that the power supply required a large increase to safely and effectively handle the electric load of the current equipment. Electrical capacity was increased four-fold which resulted in the necessity to amend this contract and increase the not-to-exceed amount from $550,000.00 to $740,000.00 over the term of the seven-year contract.

Background information for the agreement with BigByte.CC Corp:

Los Alamos County requires a secure remote Information Technology (IT) disaster recovery site and data center to ensure continuity of operations following any disruption to its primary site systems. This agreement authorizes the County to co-locate IT equipment at the BIGBYTE data center facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as described in attachment B. This site provides restoration of core County IT systems and continued operation of critical business after a disaster; geographically separate, secure housing of County servers and network equipment; transfer of critical data and maintenance of critical voice communications; and 24-hour access to facilities based on completed Welcome Pack/Standard Operating Procedures.

BIGBYTE offers Los Alamos County the ability to expand recovery operations by providing access to two full cabinets for network equipment, which doubles the amount of space in the current location and provides and manages all physical cabling and cross connections within the facility located and on-demand technical support at 123 Central Avenue NW in Albuquerque.

Alternatives

Alternatives to increasing the electrical load capacity would render the disaster site equipment unsafe and unreliable.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

This transition to a new secure remote disaster recovery site and data center with telecommunication interconnection is included in Information Management's FY27 approved budget.
