WHEREAS, the Los Alamos County Public Libraries spark creativity, fuel imagination, and inspire lifelong learning, serving as vibrant community hubs, connecting people with knowledge, technology, and resources while fostering civic engagement and critical thinking; and
WHEREAS, the libraries provide free and equitable access to books, digital tools, and innovative programming, ensuring that all individuals - regardless of background - have access to resources, training, and opportunities that provide the support they need to learn, connect, and thrive; and
WHEREAS, the libraries partner with schools, businesses, and organizations, connecting the dots to maximize resources, increase efficiency, support career growth, and expand access to essential services, strengthening the entire community and protecting the right to read, think, and explore without censorship, standing as champions of intellectual freedom and free expression; and
WHEREAS, the libraries nurture young mind through regular programming such as Story Time, Music and Movement, and Beginning English as a Second Language, fostering curiosity and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, the libraries, librarians, and library workers provide welcoming spaces that inspire discovery, collaboration, and creativity and are joining together to celebrate National Library Week under the theme "Drawn to the Library" by providing special events, such as an Author Reading and Writing Workshop with Manny Loley.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim the week of April 6-12, 2025, as
"National Library Week in Los Alamos County"
During this week, I encourage all residents to visit the Mesa Public and White Rock Branch libraries, explore their resources, and celebrate all the ways that the Los Alamos County public libraries draw us together as a community.
