Title

Approval to Purchase a Construction Dump Truck with Snowplow and Spreader Attachments from Inland Kenworth US Inc. in an Amount Not to Exceed $320,479

Recommended Motion

I move that Council approve the purchase a Construction Dump Truck with Snowplow and Spreader Attachments from Inland Kenworth US Inc. in an amount not to exceed $320,479.

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council approve the motion as presented.

Body

During the Fiscal Year 2023 County budget hearings, County Council approved the Fleet Equipment Replacement budget that included $243,000 authorizing the purchase of a ten cubic yard construction dump truck, with a snowplow and spreader attachments.

This unit serves multiple roles in the Traffic and Streets division. For example this unit is a dump truck in the summer and will be used to haul materials. In the winter the dump bed is removed and replaced by the spreader attachment. Along with the snow plow, the spreader is used with the same truck for snow removal operations.

As a result of increases in market pricing from inflationary pressures, current equipment replacement costs exceed the original approved budget for these items. This price does not include GRT, which is not applicable as this is an equipment purchase by Los Alamos County.

On June 27, 2023, Council approved Budget Revision 2023-45 transferring $78,000 from the Traffic & Streets Division to the Fleet Replacement Fund to cover the shortfall required to purchase the equipment.

Alternatives

Council could choose to not approve the purchase of equipment. However, costs for maintenance of existing equipment and future replacement may continue to increase.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

As Budget Revision 2023-45 has been approved, no additional fiscal impacts are anticipated.
