Title

Update on the 37th Street Play Lot Neighborhood Meeting

Body

On May 31 The Parks Division invited the neighbors of the 37th street play lot to an informational meeting on the future improvements at the play lot.

In attendance was Brian Brogan CSD Director, Jeff Humpton Parks Superintendent, and Parks and Rec Board Members, Stephanie Nakhleh - Chair, and Dina Pesenson. We also had in attendance eight to ten of the neighborhood residence.

Concerns:

                     Removal of fence

                     Sledding hill

                     Removal of large swings

                     Trail head access

                     Picnic tables and ADA access

                     Drainage through trail head

                     Painting hopscotch on sidewalks

                     Baby swings

                     ½ court basketball court

Resolutions

Replacement of fence with 4’ fence without barbed top

Move bench out of area of sledding runout

Leave swings / increase fall zone area / possibly rotate to achieve fall zone

Create double fence to trail head to lessen access by stray children.

Create picnic area with ADA table / possible shade if trees do not provide enough

Remove non-compliant slide and replace with 2-5 year old play structure

Move swing and merry go round to accommodate play structure if necessary

Install new boarders around playground equipment and swings for fall zones

Look at re-directing natural drainage away from trail head

Cut down dead trees in slope and lay horizontal for erosion control as well as unwanted motor vehicles

                     Painting hopscotch on the sidewalks

Install baby swings on existing swing set

Once we get the green light on this project we will break this up into manageable projects that can be done in a few days at a time so as to not tear up the whole park. As an example we will work on the swings to completion prior to removing the slide and installing the play structure and then we may remove the old boarders and install all new boarders so as to not put the play lot out of service any longer that absolutely necessary. We will have the fencing contracted and will probably have it all installed over a couple of days’ time.
