Title

Recommended Action

I move that Council approve agreement No. AGR25-966 with BurnBot Inc., in the amount of $560,000.00 plus applicable Gross Receipts Tax, for the purpose of forest treatment management services.

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council approve the service contract with BurnBot Inc., for Forest Treatment Management Services in the amount not to exceed $560,000.00.

Body

The Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) Wildland Division is committed to continually enhancing its fuels reduction and wildfire mitigation efforts. BurnBot’s services align with the Division’s long-term strategic goals and offer advanced capabilities that support safer and more efficient operations. BurnBot utilizes Remote Precision Forestry Masticators designed to operate in extreme conditions, including dense vegetation, trees up to 8 inches in diameter, and slopes up to 60 degrees-areas that are typically inaccessible to conventional equipment. LAFD intends to deploy this equipment for mastication and fuels removal on County-owned properties, including both previously treated areas requiring maintenance and new project sites. Due to the steep terrain in many parts of Los Alamos County, it is essential that the vendor’s equipment is capable of operating on slopes greater than 30% grade. These services were procured through cooperative purchasing under a New Mexico Statewide Price Agreement and are for a term of seven years.

Alternatives

The County could choose not to utilize BurnBot and continue using existing mitigation processes, reducing the ability to treat steep slopes that post safety risks to personnel.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

Oversight and project management for BurnBot's mitigation work will be handled by existing LAFD Wildland Division Staff. Funding for these services is budgeted through the Mitigation Fund.
