Recommended Action
I move that Council appoint Nancy Barnes, Don Machen, and James Nesmith, to fill three of four vacancies on the Transportation Board to fill terms beginning on March 1, 2017 and ending on February 28, 2019.
Body
The purpose of this item is to fill three of four vacancies on the Transportation Board.
These vacancies represent expiring terms that will be vacated by Khalil Spencer, Nancy Barnes, Don Machen and James Nesmith on February 28, 2017. Ms. Barnes, Mr. Machen, and Mr. Nesmith are eligible for and interested in being reappointed. Mr. Spencer is term limited and cannot re-apply.
This seven member board has staggered two-year terms beginning March 1 and ending February 28. The current Transportation Board membership is shown on Attachment A.
Party affiliations are noted as [D] Democrat, [R] Republican, [I] Independent, [G] Green, [L] Libertarian, [DTS] Declined to State, and [N] Not Registered to Vote.
The applicants for these vacancies are: Nancy Barnes [R]; Don Machen [DTS]; and James Nesmith [R]. Appointing all three applicants would be in compliance with the County Charter restriction concerning political party majorities on Boards and Commissions.
Each of the three applicants were interviewed by Councilor Chandler, Deputy Public Works Director Jon Bulthuis, and Transportation Board Vice-chair Brian O’Neil. The application & interview packets are attached for reference (Attachments B, C, and D).
