Recommended Action

I move that Council approve the support of the Fix Our Forests Act (H.R. 471 / S. 1462).

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council approve the [enter type of item] as requested.

Body

The Fix Our Forests Act (H.R. 471 / S. 1462) is bipartisan federal legislation designed to accelerate forest management, reduce catastrophic wildfire risks, and streamline environmental reviews across nearly 200 million acres of federal, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Tribal lands. The text of the act is shown in Attachment B. This item gives Council an opportunity to learn about the Fix Our Forests Act and to determine whether they support the Act or not.

Attachment A is a proposed Op-Ed written by Fire Chief Erik Litzenberg.  If Council takes action to support the Act, then Chief Litzenberg will submit the article for publication.

Alternatives

Council could not take action to show their support of this bill or could ask the Federal Working Group to research and give a recommendation.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Unplanned Item

There is no staff or fiscal impact due to this item.
