Title
Approval of Location for Art in Public Places piece, "Santa Clara Jar", by Polly Rose Folwell
Recommended Action
I move that the County Council approve the location of the Mesa Public Library for the Art in Public Places piece "Santa Clara Jar" by Polly Rose Folwell.
County Manager's Recommendation
The County Manager recommends that Council approve the location of "Santa Clara Jar", by Polly Rose Folwell as requested.
Board, Commission or Committee Recommendation
The Art in Public Places Board concluded and voted at their June 2024 meeting to recommend the location of "Santa Clara Jar" to be at the Mesa Public Library, in a case in the Southwest Room.
Body
The "Santa Clara Jar", by Polly Rose Folwell was donated to the Los Alamos County Art in Public Places Collection by Susan Hall. The Art in Public Places Board approved the donation at their January 27, 2022 meeting. Placement of the jar was to be discussed during another meeting at a later date. At the April 5, 2022 meeting, County Council voted in favor of the motion that the County Council approve the recommendation to accept the donation from Susan Hall of the Santa Clara Jar, by Polly Rose Folwell, for a cost of $0 into the Art in Public Places Collection, and the location placement of the art be determined later.
Determining a location was delayed due to County Liaison Staff and APP Board member turnover. Based on one of two suggestions from County employees in May 2024, the Mesa Public Library was determined to be the best option since there were already some smaller pieces in a case that would complement the piece and no additional costs would be incurred for the placement.
Alternatives
Council could not approve the location.
Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item
There are no fiscal impacts, it will require staff to place the art piece in its location.
