Title

Approval of Services Agreement No. AGR 25-26 with Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. in the amount of $398,000, plus Applicable Gross Receipts Tax, for the Purpose of Developing an Electric Distribution System Electrification Study

Recommended Action

I move that the Board of Public Utilities recommend Services Agreement No. AGR 25-26 with Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. in the amount of $398,000, plus Applicable Gross Receipts Tax, for the Purpose of Developing an Electric Distribution System Electrification Study and forward to Council for approval.

Utilities Manager's Recommendation

The Utilities Manager recommends that the Board approve the motion as presented.

Body

The Contractor will collect and assess County’s current electrical system data and conduct a power Electrification Study to provide information on the Electrical Distribution system’s current condition (“Services”). The Contractor will define projects and funding sources required to maintain system resilience to meet the increased demands on the Los Alamos County Electric Distribution system due to electrification and growth.

Alternatives

The study is required to develop plans and projects to maintain reliable electric service to the County considering the increased electric demands projected for the future. This is a proactive approach to address the growth of electric demand. If the study is not initiated, staff will work to address electric demand issues as the system demand increases.

Fiscal and Staff Impact

The project costs are within the approved budget by Council. Staff will be directly involved in the delivery of information and project development with the contractor. The project will be completed by July 30,2025.
