Title
Landfill Feasibility Study Overview
Body
Los Alamos County currently transports municipal solid waste approximately 120 miles to the Valencia County Regional Landfill and, on weekends, approximately 90 miles to the Rio Rancho Landfill, which is anticipated to close within the next several years. This reliance on distant disposal facilities exposes the County to increasing transportation costs, landfill tipping fees, and long-term disposal uncertainty. The County completed a Landfill Feasibility Study to evaluate the feasibility of developing a landfill closer to Los Alamos County and to better understand potential options for long-term solid waste disposal. Armando Gabaldon, Environmental Services Manager, will provide the Board with an overview of the study findings and next steps.
