Title

Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 22-24. A Resolution Authorizing the Incorporated County of Los Alamos to Pick-Up 5% of the PERA Municipal Fire Plan 5 Member Contributions as Noted Herein

Recommended Action

I move that Council adopt Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 22-24, a Resolution Authorizing the Incorporated County of Los Alamos to Pick-Up 5% of the PERA Municipal Fire Plan 5 Member Contributions as Noted Herein.

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council adopt Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 22-24.

Body

On July 1, 2020, the County entered into a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Los Alamos Firefighters’ Association, IAFF Local #327.  Amendment No. 1 to the CBA was ratified by IAFF Local #327 and is set to be considered by Council at this meeting.  Amendment No. 1 commits to including an additional pick up for the bargaining unit’s employees in the Municipal Fire Plan 5.  This additional pickup is 5% of employee contributions.  After the pickup, the employee contribution percentage will be 14.70 percent of the employees’ salary and employer contribution percentage will be 27.40 percent of the employees’ salary.  Resolution 22-24 outlines this commitment in PERA contributions for PERA Municipal Fire Plan 5 members employed by Los Alamos County.

If this Resolution is adopted, the item will be sent to the PERA Board for final approval which should take place in December 2022.

Alternatives

The adoption of this resolution is necessary to accomplish the agreed to pick-up for PERA Municipal Fire Plan 5 member contributions.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Unplanned Item

Fiscal impact is shown in previous agenda item (#16542-22).  There will be minimal staff impact as changes necessary for this pickup will need to be accommodated into the financial system.
