Title

Interim Report on the Electrification Study

Body

Jacob A. Wells P.E. - Project Manager and Elliott J. Popel from 1898 & Co - a division of Burns and McDonnell Engineering Consultants, will present a preliminary report on the electrification study commissioned by the Board of Public Utilities demonstrating their assumptions on conversions of gas appliances and gasoline cars to all electric appliances and electric vehicles. Their assumptions will drive the analysis and the impact it will have on the electrical demand of Los Alamos County. The basis for the assumptions will be explained in a set of scenarios and how they will impact the growth in electrical demand forecast for 2040 and 2055. These forecasts will drive the electrical facility upgrades that will be required to meet the demands of the electrification program that will be presented in the final report.

Electrical study results of the existing system will be presented to demonstrate the initial effectiveness of the electrical power distribution system for Los Alamos and White Rock. An explanation of how the electrical power distribution system will be analyzed by the team with the application of the forecasted loads on the existing system and the anticipated challenges will be explained as part of this presentation.

In addition, the project team will explain the additional considerations being studied that will include the transmission system review, wholesale power requirements, State and Federal Rules and Regulations that may impact the utility as well and any additional staffing needs that may be anticipated to upgrade and maintain the electrical distribution system.
