Proclamation Designating October 5th through the 11th, 2026, as "Fire Prevention Week in Los Alamos County." (Accepted by Los Alamos Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova)

WHEREAS, Los Alamos County is committed to ensuring the safety of all those living in and visiting the County where fire remains a serious public safety concern; and
WHEREAS, Los Alamos County first responders remain dedicated to reducing the occurrence of fires through prevention, education, and community outreach; and
WHEREAS, battery-related fires are increasing as the presence of lithium-ion batteries in many households introduces additional fire risks if misused, damaged, or improperly charged; and
WHEREAS, the theme for the 2026 Fire Prevention Week, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” reminds everyone that safe charging will reduce the risk of fires; and
WHEREAS, safely charging battery-powered devices every time makes a difference in preventing home fires.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim October 4th through the 10th, 2026, as
“FIRE PREVENTION WEEK IN LOS ALAMOS COUNTY”
and I urge all residents to talk to a firefighter or visit the Los Alamos County Fire Marshal web page to learn safe charging habits.
