Title

Approval of Sunset Date for Tourism Implementation Task Force

Recommended Action

I move that Council sunset the Tourism Implementation Task Force as of May 7, 2024.

Body

The Tourism Implementation Task Force (“Task Force”) was created through an action of the County Council on February 27, 2018 when the Council formally accepted the Los Alamos County Tourism Strategic Plan. The initial charter was approved by Council on April 3, 2018. The Task Force served as an advisory body to the County Council for the purpose of building the tourism economy as a way to economic development through implementation of the principles, objectives and associated actions as provided in the Tourism Strategic Plan. The charter for the Task Force was revised several times with the last revision in June 2021.  Recently, changes were made to ensure better coordination with the Lodgers' Tax Advisory Board (LTAB).  These changes include transitioning the Task Force from an independent advisory body to Council to a working group of the Lodgers' Tax Advisory Board.  The proposed 2024 LTAB Work Plan identifies this change.  Through this formal action, the Council will sunset the Task Force.  In general, any members of the Task Force may participate in the Tourism Working Group, if they desire.

Alternatives

Council could decide not to sunset this Task Force but would need to update the Task Force charter.
