Proclamation declaring Saturday, Nov. 27 as "Small Business Saturday" in Los Alamos (accepted by Ryn Herrmann, Executive Director, Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce)

Body

WHEREAS:                     Small Business Saturday is an annual holiday that celebrates our small businesses and encourages consumers to shop locally at the start of the holiday season for unique products and experiences available only in our community; and

 

WHEREAS:                     Small, locally owned businesses in Los Alamos are vital to our County’s economic health; the U.S. Small Business Administration states that small businesses create 65% of net new local jobs; and

 

WHEREAS:                     By supporting local businesses, you are in turn supporting your local economy; significantly more money stays in a community when purchases are made at locally owned businesses; and

 

WHEREAS:                     Small, locally owned businesses in Los Alamos need our support now more than ever and the holiday shopping season is critical to their success; and

 

WHEREAS:                     Small Business Saturday is a tax-free holiday; the State suspends collection of gross receipts tax on sales of qualifying items at certain small businesses; and

 

WHEREAS:                     We join the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce and Los Alamos MainStreet in supporting locally owned small businesses;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 27, 2021 as

 

“SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY”

 

in Los Alamos County, and urge our citizens to support small businesses and merchants by shopping locally on this day, as well as throughout the year.
