Board/Commission Appointment - Personnel Board
Recommended Action
I move that Council nominate and appoint Martha Katko to fill one vacancy on the Personnel Board for the term April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2029.
Body
The purpose of this item is to fill one of two upcoming vacancies on the Personnel Board. These vacancies are a result of James Wernicke and Stephanie Haaser reaching the end of their second terms.
The applicant for this position is: Martha Katko [D].
The nominee's party affiliation has been verified with the Clerk's Office.
Ms. Katko was interviewed by an interview committee on February 18, 2026. The interview committee recommends appointing Ms. Katko to the Personnel Board, as shown in Attachment D.
The interview committee consisted of the following:
Council Liaison: Beverly Neal-Clinton
Personnel Board Chair: David E. Hampton
Human Resources Manager: Bernadette Martinez
Party affiliations are noted as [D] Democrat, [R] Republican, [I] Independent, [G] Green, [L] Libertarian, [DTS] Declined to State, and [N] Not Registered to Vote.
Per Article VIII. Sec. 8-182 of the County Code provides that this five (5)- member board shall serve for staggered three-year terms. Terms of members shall expire on March 31 of the third year following their appointment. The Personnel Board is currently composed as follows:

Appointing any of the nominees will not violate the County Charter restriction concerning political party majorities on Boards and Commissions.
