Title

Approval of Purchase of Eight Sewer Lift Station Pumps and Associated Accessories for the Rehabilitation of Four Sewer Lift Stations from James, Cooke and Hobson in the Amount of $140,986.00

Recommended Action

I move that the Board of Public Utilities approve the Purchase of Eight Lift Station Pumps and Associated Accessories for the Rehabilitation of Four Sewer Lift Stations from James, Cooke and Hobson in the Amount of $140,986.00 plus applicable Gross Receipts Tax.

Utilities Manager's Recommendation

Staff recommends that the Board approve as presented.  With Board's approval, staff will generate a Purchase Order for these Eight Sewer Lift Station Pumps and Associated Accessories.

Body

The North Road, Paseo De Penasco, El Gancho and Loma Vista Sewer lift stations are some of the oldest lift stations in the DPU collection system dating back to the early 1960's.  These four lift stations are unique since they are a "packaged" system with the pumps and controls in a pre-assembled underground steel vessel.  Each of these lift stations have regular failures due to the conditions of the equipment and controls.  This purchase of pumps and accessories is the first step to completely upgrade these lift stations to provide reliable service.  We will proceed to use the services of on-call contractors to complete the labor to replace the pumps/valves and to upgrade the electric services and controls.

Alternatives

If the pump purchase is not approved staff will continue to pursue the lift stations rehabilitation to avoid failures and sewer overflows.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

$350,000 has been budgeted in FY2024 for sewer lift station pumps, valves and controls.
