Proclamation Designating November 29, 2025, as "Small Business Saturday" in Los Alamos (Accepted by Sandy Jones, Chamber of Commerce Director)

WHEREAS: Small, locally owned businesses in Los Alamos are vital to our county’s economic health, creating 62% of net new local jobs according to the U.S. Small Business Administration; and
WHEREAS: Purchases made at locally owned businesses generate significantly greater economic returns for the community than those made at nationally owned establishments; and
WHEREAS: Small Business Saturday is an annual celebration that highlights the importance of our local small businesses and their essential role in a thriving economy; and
WHEREAS: This day encourages residents to shop locally at the start of the holiday season and enjoy the unique products, services, and experiences available only in our community; and
WHEREAS: Our small businesses need our support now more than ever, and the holiday shopping season is critical to their continued success and growth; and
WHEREAS: Small Business Saturday also provides a tax-free opportunity to shop local, as the State of New Mexico suspends collection of gross receipts tax on qualifying purchases, and we proudly join the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce in celebrating and supporting our local entrepreneurs and small business owners.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I
do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 29, 2025, as
“SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY”
in Los Alamos County and encourage all residents to support our small businesses and merchants by shopping locally on this day and throughout the year.
