Title
Consideration of Charter for Inclusivity Task Force
Recommended Action
I move to approve the Inclusivity Task Force Charter as presented and direct the County Manager to begin recruitment of members.
Body
The Los Alamos Racial Equity and Inclusivity Task Force (“REI Task Force”) was created through an action of the County Council on March 30, 2021, when the Council formally adopted their Charter. The REI Task Force served as an advisory body to the County Council for the purpose of how the County would promote equity, inclusivity, and a feeling of belonging to the benefit of all and the betterment of the community. The REI Task Force presented their final report to the Council on August 30, 2022. One of their recommendations was to "Develop and implement an active body (board or commission) of community volunteers". On June 22, 2024, Council approved by motion to "...create a new citizen Task Force to lead a conversation and make recommendations to Council about inequities and inclusion challenges and opportunities within the community".
This new Charter creates an Inclusivity Task Force. Approval of the proposed Charter (Attachment A) will formally establish the Task Force, set its purpose, scope of work, representation and time frame.
Alternatives
County Council could decide not to create a new citizen task force at this time and provide alternative direction to the County Manager.
Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item
There is no fiscal or staff impact due to this item. Council approved additional Board and Commission staff support in the Fiscal Year 2025 Adopted Budget.
