Body
Annually, the Los Alamos County Council adopts a "Federal Agenda." The document is used as a guide for our intergovernmental efforts at the federal level. The agenda is developed through a Council Working Group that meets to produce the message and recommended County priority topics.
Attachment B is the version of the federal priorities that was developed in anticipation of Congressional meetings in February 2024. This version includes some new items including a request to legislators that the amendment to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act be passed/supported and the creation and funding of a grant program under DOE to support infrastructure in communities affected by DOE operations (also supported by the Council for a resolution to the National Association of Counties).
In addition, this version includes the following priorities, which are further elaborated within Attachment A:
-- Legislative Support for Appropriations
-- Support for Additional Land Conveyance
-- Federal Agency funding for certain projects
As reference, Attachment A shows the 2023 Los Alamos Federal Priorities that was approved in January 2023.
Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item
The fiscal and staff impacts vary depending on the specifics of the legislation.
