Title
Boards/Commission Appointments - Parks & Recreation
Recommended Action
I move that Council nominate Jasmine Stephens to fill one vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Board, term beginning on December 1, 2025 and ending November 30, 2027.
I further move that Council acknowledge that Jasmine Stephens is currently serving on the Art in Public Places Board. Council finds these positions compatible, Council approves of Ms. Stephens serving concurrently on these boards, and hereby appoints her to the Parks & Recreation Board.
Body
The purpose of this item is to fill one vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Board. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Summer Schaufler whose first term expired on November 30, 2025 and who has chosen not to reapply.
Applicant for this position was:
Jasmine Stephens (I)
She was interviewed by the Parks & Recreation Board Interview Committee on March 4, 2026.
The Interview Committee consisted of:
Theresa Cull, Council Liaison
Brian Watkins, Board Chair
Linda Lindstrom, filling in for Board Liaison, Wendy Parker
The interview panel recommends appointing Ms. Stephens to the Parks & Recreation Board as shown in Attachment B.
Party affiliations are noted as follows: [D] Democrat, [R] Republican, [I] Independent, [G] Green, [L] Libertarian, [DTS] Declined to State, and [N] Not Registered to Vote.
The Clerk’s Office has verified the applicant and their party affiliation. Appointing the nominee will not violate the County Charter restriction concerning political party majorities on Boards and Commissions.
This seven-member board has staggered two-year terms beginning December 1 and ending November 30. The current Parks & Recreation Board roster is provided as Attachment C.
