Board, Commission or Committee Recommendation

Body
One in five New Mexicans is currently aged 65 or older and there is a significant need for skilled nursing facilities. Los Alamos County currently has an occupancy rate of 83.5% (55 resident days occupying 66 available monthly beds). The surrounding region also has similar needs for a nursing home facility.
The Regional Strategic Fund, governed by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Rio Arriba County (Attachment A), makes regional infrastructure projects and social services eligible for funding.
Rio Arriba County has previously presented the Los Alamos County Council with a request to approve a fund allocation for a nursing home facility and was granted $1.3 Million.
Due to inflationary concerns the total cost of the project is in excess of the current budget and Rio Arriba County is requesting additional funds from Los Alamos County.
The County Council Regional and State Working Group recommends that Los Alamos County Council approve an additional allocation of $2 Million.
A presentation on the project will be given by Rio Arriba County Economic Development Director, Christine Bustos. This presentation is attached as Attachment B.
Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item
There is adequate fund balance in the Regional Strategic Fund for this allocation.
