Recommended Action
I move that Council accept the FY27 Fire Marshal Distribution Grant awarded to the Incorporated County of Los Alamos by the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, in the amount not to exceed $1,302,126.
I, further, move that Council approve the Budget Revision 2027-16 as summarized on Attachment B and that the attachment be made part of the minutes of this meeting.
County Manager's Recommendation
The County Manager recommends that Council approve the request to accept the Fire Marshal Distribution Grant Awarded to the Incorporated County of Los Alamos by the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Budget Revision 2027-16.
Body
The purpose of the Fire Protection Fund Law is to provide for distribution of funds, from the fire protection fund referred to in 59A-53-1 NMSA 1978 of the Insurance Code, to incorporated cities, towns and villages, and to independent fire districts, in proportion to their respective needs, for use in operation, maintenance and betterment of local fire departments. The use of the fund is to respond and prevent the hazard of loss by fire. In addition, it helps reduce fire insurance rates and promote public safety.
The County received the notification for the annual distribution of funds, which exceeded the original budgeted amount by more than $300,000. This action will true up and accurately reflect the amount the County received: $1,302,126.00. This item also allows Council to accept this grant.
Alternatives
The alternative to accepting the grant agreement is not having the necessary funds to maintain and better our local fire department and the funds necessary for the replacement/relocation of Fire Station 4.
