Title

Proclamation Designating November 30, 2024, as "Small Business Saturday" (Accepted by Sandy Jones, Chamber of Commerce Director)

Body

WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday is an annual holiday that celebrates our small businesses and encourages consumers to shop locally at the start of the holiday shopping season; and

WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday helps small businesses by drawing attention to their importance in our economy. It also helps customers who want access to unique products and experiences in our community; and

WHEREAS, small, locally owned businesses in Los Alamos are vital to our county’s economic health; the U.S. Small Business Administration states that small businesses create 62% of net new local jobs; and

WHEREAS, by supporting local businesses, you are in turn supporting your local economy; significantly more money stays in a community when purchases are made at locally owned - rather than nationally owned - businesses; and

WHEREAS, small, locally owned businesses in Los Alamos need our support now more than ever and the holiday shopping season is critical to their success; and

WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday is a tax-free holiday; the State suspends collection of gross receipts tax on sales of qualifying items at certain small businesses; and

WHEREAS, we join the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce in supporting locally owned small businesses.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 30, 2024 as

“SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY”

In Los Alamos County, and urge our citizens to support small businesses and merchants by shopping locally on this day, as well as throughout the year.
