Title

UNM & NMSU Pathways to Zero Natural Gas Usage - Presentation of Findings

Body

DPU has a goal to eliminate natural gas usage by 2070.  While this is a long-term goal, DPU has partnered with the University of New Mexico (UNM) and New Mexico State University (NMSU) to explore pathways to zero natural gas usage.  The project began January 1, 2025 and it is now at its completion.  Major elements of this project started with a customer survey, and discrete choice experiments, and then it coupled these data with utility usage data to analyze household energy use and the potential impact of transitioning from natural gas to electric appliances.  There are several findings and recommendations in this study that should help DPU with identifying next steps in meeting DPU's Environmental Sustainability focus areas.
