Proclamation Designating September 15th Through October 15th, 2025, as "National Hispanic Heritage Month in Los Alamos County." (Accepted by Los Alamos County Employees)
Body
WHEREAS, during National Hispanic Heritage Month, Los Alamos County recognizes that Hispanic heritage is American heritage; and
WHEREAS, Los Alamos County joins the rest of the nation in honoring and celebrating the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America; and
WHEREAS, the observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover the 30-day period celebrated today, September 15th through October 15th; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic heritage is part of the DNA of American culture, with undeniable influence in education, art, science, health care, technology, business, activism, agriculture, public safety, infrastructure, economic development, and governance; and
WHEREAS, the Hispanic community is deeply rooted in New Mexico for more than 480 years; and
WHEREAS, Los Alamos County is proud of its Hispanic community of residents, elected and public officials, and employees, and recognizes that when we embrace diversity and celebrate multicultural heritages, we become a stronger and better county, neighbor, state, and nation; and
WHEREAS, the Los Alamos County libraries will host a Tiny Art Show and youth mural to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, inviting teens and adults to create small works inspired by Hispanic and Latino heritage, while younger artists decorate tiles for a collaborative mural.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim September 15th through October 15th, 2025, as
"NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH IN LOS ALAMOS COUNTY"
