Recommended Action

I move that the Board of Public Utilities recommend the Award of Bid No. 25-45 for the Purpose of the Trinity Drive Primary Electric Replacement with DUB-L-EE LLC. in the Amount of $988,917.01 plus a 20% Contingency of $197,783.40, and Applicable Gross Receipts Tax for the Term of Six Months and forward to Council for approval.

Utilities Manager's Recommendation

The Utilities Manager recommends that the Board approve the motion as presented.

Body

The direct buried three phase primary line along Trinity and down Oppenheimer has failed several times. The past outages affect over 1600 customers. This project is the replacement of the feeder 13-line section, install two new switches at Trinity and Oppenheimer, and proceed down Trinity Drive to replace a three-phase line. The new line is needed to support the Western Area, Pajarito Ski Hill and the Los Alamos Medical Center. Also, this project will support the residential area from Oppenheimer to Timber Ridge. The project will include the trench installation of 6” conduits, switch cabinets, pull boxes, junction boxes and primary cable. The project also includes 4” conduit and junction boxes for the county fiber network.

Alternatives

If the primary line is not replaced, future line failures are enviable and will cause outages to customers along Trinity Drive, the Ski Hill, and the Western Area which includes 1655 customers.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

The engineer's estimate for the project was $1 million and the bid came in just under the estimate.  However, the prior Oppenheimer bid project used some of the project budget.  The project was budgeted through Electric Distribution for FY2024...
