Recommended Action
I introduce, without prejudice, Incorporated County of Alamos Code Ordinance No. 02-367, a Code Ordinance Amending Section 38-299 of Chapter 38, Relating to Distracted Driving and ask the staff to assure that it is published as provided in the County Charter.

The County Manager recommends that Council introduce this Code Ordinance.
Body
Chapter 38 of the Code of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos governs Traffic and Vehicles.
Traffic crash data maintained by the Los Alamos County Police Department indicates that distracted driving consistently contributes to injury and non-injury crashes. Additionally, the most recent Youth Risk and Resiliency Survey indicated a higher percentage of Los Alamos County teens self-reporting texting while driving that teens statewide, with over 50% of Los Alamos High School juniors and seniors reporting texting while driving behavior. The purpose of this ordinance is to encourage traffic safety and promote awareness of the risks associated with distracted driving.
