Title

UNM-LA Capital Projects Presentation and Possible Approval of Project Funding and Budget Revision 2025-09

Recommended Action

I move the Council approve the project included in this agenda for the UNM-LA CIP allocation in the amount not to exceed $600,000 and approve Budget Revision 2025-09.

County Manager's Recommendation

The County Manager recommends that Council approve this item as requested.

Body

Similar to the CIP funds approved for the Los Alamos Public Schools, the County annual budget includes funding of $200,000 for UNM-Los Alamos projects. Mike Holtzclaw, Chancellor of UNM-Los Alamos, will present an overview of UNM-LA and its current and planned capital projects. The presentation is shown in Attachment A. The requested funds will help UNM-Los Alamos provide some of the money needed for our 25% required match for any capital outlay money requested from the state. In particular, these funds will help provide some of the match for two recently requested projects: Open Space Phase 2 and the Student Success and Support Center, which is part of a remodel for Building 1. The request is for $600,000.

This funding was included in the approved FY23, FY24, and FY25 budgets but has not been spent by UNM-LA; therefore, a total of $600,000 is available. Budget Revision 2025-09 would approve the carry over of these previously approved funds so that they can be spent in FY25.

Alternatives

Council could choose not to approve the projects as requested or it could choose to only approve a portion of the projects.

Fiscal and Staff Impact/Planned Item

The funds are already within the County's CIP Fund budget. Staff impact is minimal.
