Recommended Action

I move that Council authorize the Council Chair to sign and send a letter on behalf of the County Council to the New Mexico Environment Department Secretary regarding the County's perspective on the DOE's cleanup priorities.

Body

Based on Council's Federal Priorities and supporting legacy waste clean up in Los Alamos, the letter included as Attachment A would clarify for the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) the County's local position about cleanup priorities. Attachment B is the Administrative Compliance Order NMED issued in February 2026 for reference.
