Title

Fire Station #4 Artwork Acquisition Process Discussion

Recommended Action

I move that the Art in Public Places Board recommend that County Council, to allow the County and State to pool funding resources for acquiring the Fire Station #4 Public Artwork, approve using the State’s artist-selection process for the artwork, to include delegating Council's artist-selection authority to the Local Selection Committee formed specifically for this project. I further move that the Board recommend that Council authorize an expenditure from the County’s Art in Public Places Fund not to exceed $______ plus applicable Gross Receipts Tax, to be supplemented with a minimum of $20,000 in State funds as a result of using the State's artist-selection process, to fund the purchase, installation, plaque, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and contingency expenses for the Fire Station #4 artwork.

Body

The Board will continue their discussion on whether to use the State’s artist-selection process for the Fire Station #4 public artwork. Board members will revisit questions raised at last month’s meeting and review the responses provided by the State’s Public Art Program Director, who may be present to address additional questions and offer clarification as needed.

The discussion will help the Board determine whether the State’s process is the preferred acquisition pathway for this project.

If the Board chooses to proceed with the State’s process, they will then vote on a recommended acquisition pathway and a not-to-exceed expenditure from the County’s Art in Public Places Fund.

If the Board chooses not to use the State’s process, the project budget will require additional discussion, and the Project Plan will need to be updated to reflect the selected pathway and associated costs. The Board will review and vote to approve the updated Project Plan at a later meeting before initiating a local artist-selection process.
