Title
Approval to Apply for the Cultural Properties Restoration Grant for the Manhattan Project-era Dormitory Project
Recommended Action
I move that Council give approval to apply for the Cultural Properties Restoration Grant for the Manhattan Project-era Dormitory Project.
County Manager's Recommendation
The County Manager recommends that Council approve this item as requested.
Body
The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division is currently accepting applications for the Cultural Properties Restoration Fund Grant Program. This grant program provides for the restoration, preservation, stabilization, protection, and interpretation of significant cultural properties in New Mexico. Properties need to be listed or eligible to be listed in the State Register or Cultural Properties or National Register of Historic Places. The Manhattan Project-era Dormitory qualifies as such property. With the upcoming renovation, staff would like to apply for this grant at the $500,000 level. At that level, Council approval for applying is necessary. The due date for the grant application is July 16, 2026. Attachment A shows the Grant Matrix which gives further details of the project and grant application.
Alternatives
Council could not approve this grant application and then, according to our Grant Policy, staff could not submit an application for this grant.
Fiscal and Staff Impact/Unplanned Item
There is minimal staff impact to receiving this grant and the fiscal impact will allow for a portion of previously allocated CIP funds to this project be reallocated to other projects.
