Title

Recommendation from the Arts in Public Places Advisory Board for an Expenditure of Art in Public Places Funds in an Amount to Not Exceed $3,000 for the acceptance of a donation of art from Richard Swenson and installation of that art on the exterior of the Los Alamos Nature Center.

Recommended Action

I move that the Council approve an acceptance of a donation of art from Richard Swenson into the Los Alamos County art collection and an expenditure of Art in Public Places funds in an amount to not exceed $3.000.00 for installation of that art on the exterior of the Los Alamos Nature Center.

County Manager's Recommendation

In late 2018, the Art in Public Places Board (APPB) received an offer from local artist Richard Swenson to donate metal sculptures to Los Alamos County with a recommended location for those sculptures on the exterior of the Los Alamos Nature Center.  APPB interacted with representatives from the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), the operators of the Nature Center, and PEEC strongly supported both the donation and the proposed location.  The following pages contain the donation documentation, images of the art that is being donated, consisting of a large and small sculpture of a Lizard, and images of the proposed location on the exterior of the Nature Center.
