Title
Approval to Accept Amendment 1 to the FY2021 E911 Grant from the Department of Finance and Administration in the Amount Not To Exceed $209,618 and Related Budget Revision 2021-21
Recommended Action
I move that Council approve the request to accept Amendment 1 to the Fiscal Year 2021 E911 Grant Agreement from the Department of Finance and Administration in an amount not to exceed $209,618. I further move that Council direct the County Manager to execute the grant agreement. I further move that Council approve Budget Revision 2021-21 as summarized on attachment B and that the attachment be made a part of the minutes of this meeting.
County Manager's Recommendation
The County Manager recommends that Council approve the motion as requested.
Body
The Enhanced 911 (E911) Act, NMSA 1978, Section 63-9D-1 will enhance the 911 telephone emergency system and is necessary to expand the benefits of the basic 911 emergency telephone number, to achieve a faster response time which minimizes the loss of life and property, provides automatic routing to the appropriate public safety answering point ("PSAP"), provides immediate visual display of the location and telephone number of the caller and curtails abuse of the emergency system by documenting callers.

There currently is no application process for the E911 grant. The Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) notifies the Los Alamos County Police Department of the award amount each year. The County entered into a grant agreement, effective July 1, 2020 for an award of $200,812 for enhanced 911 services and equipment which was approved by Council on July 28, 2020. On September 15, 2020, the State Board of Finance awarded the County an additional $8,806 for enhanced 911 services and equipment for a total of $209,618.
Alternatives
The alternative to accepting the grant agreement is not having the necessary funds to upgrade the 911 system equipment. Additionally, by not accepting the grant agreement there...
